I may have been a little late to jump onto the NARS Audacious lipstick bandwagon, however I finally caved and fell into the hype. I purchased two shades, and, each for $39 CAD.
These lipsticks were given this description from Sephora: Debut weightless, color-saturated lips when you smooth on this NARS Audacious Lipstick. It glides on like satin across skin, and achieves single-stroke coverage that leaves lips with captivating color. Right off the bat, I had very high expectations for this line given all the hype surrounding it and the fairly steep price point. I’m always up for trying different lip product formulas, so let’s see how these stood against its claims.
Shades: Audrey and Jane Left to Right: Jane, Audrey To start, I did a quick swatch of each shade on my hand. I found that the lipsticks were indeed very creamy and opaque just after doing on swipe.
The colours were rich and true to their colours out of the tube. NARS Audacious lipstick Jane NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jane on NC42 skin Jane is described as a “terracotta rose”, which I thought would be a suitable everyday colour for my skin tone. The lipstick was creamy and opaque upon application, but I thought the colour was a little too bright. I’d say this came out as more of a brighter brown/orange colour on me as opposed to a darker rosy/orange tone which I was expecting.
I thought it would be similar to the Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Sandalwood Beige, which was my go-to lipstick for a decent amount of time, however this lipstick was much more pigmented which, surprisingly, didn’t really suit me. I think I could have benefited from a lip liner, however I didn’t really expect to have to try too hard to make such an expensive product easier to work with. I also found that this lipstick was a little drying after a few hours of wear, which I also didn’t expect given that the formula is so creamy. It settled into my lip lines which I wasn’t a huge fan of either. Another thing that bothered me was the scent.
It wasn’t a very pleasant one; kind of like a strange earthy/woodsy scent which definitely caught me off guard. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with this lipstick and it definitely fell short of my expectations. But me being me, I decided to give the line another try. NARS Audacious Lipstick Audrey NARS Audacious Lipstick in Audrey on NC42 skin Audrey is described as a ‘red currant’. It came off more as a muted red/berry tone on me, which I personally really liked.
This is a very wearable bold lipstick which I appreciate a lot since I am all about colourful and bold lips, especially in the fall/winter months. It was also very creamy and opaque upon application and felt much more comfortable on the lips than Jane. I did not experience as much dryness or ‘line-settling’ (is this a real term?) as I did with Jane, which was a relief.
The scent was still an issue, however I was generally more impressed with this shade. Final Verdict Overall, I wasn’t completely blown away by these lipsticks. Although they lived up to most of its claims, they (particularly Jane) did not really give my lips a smoother appearance over time. Having said that, it could have just been a dud since Audrey was quite impressive and performed exactly as described.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these lipsticks are not transfer-proof at all. They do stain the lips a bit, but expect this to get on everything unless it is applied sparingly.
I would say these lipsticks are quite nice, however I’m not entire sure if they warrant the $39 CAD price tag. I would also recommend the darker shades over the lighter ones if you tend to have drier, more wrinkly lips since these lipsticks tend to sink into the lines as the day goes on. Besides that, if you have a few extra dollars to burn, it wouldn’t hurt to try it.
However, if you prefer a more matte and long-wearing lipstick, I would pass on this.
I’m so out of it cos I dont know the first two you mentioned haha — are they new in the permanent range or part of a collection? Shall google swatches. In terms of shades, I highly commend MAC talaga pero sa formula, sobrang hit-miss sa lips ko 🙁 The only mattes I can tolerate are VG1 (thank God kasi favorite ko!), Mehr (almost creamy feeling) and Velvet Teddy (although medyo drying na to compared to the first two). Viva Glam 3 looks niiiice – foxy brown plum! Pink Plaid, I also contemplated on before (during my crazy stage) but went with Creme Cup/Angel yata (not matte though). I wanna see your 3 faves in action – can you bring ’em tom?
Haha demanding sorry.:)). Plumful, craving and amorous have been sending me SOS’s lol. Im worried plumful is just a sheer, wipe off? I love the color.i own hug me,for some reason, I went nudes before it was in style, truffle,s and red browns. And mauve’s, but my lips are the color of.brave.so mauve’s look better on me.frosts do not work on me.but plumful looks be perfect plum and someone said.iV berry color with gold? That sounds good.
I was only wearing lancome rouge in love, but not crazy of most colors, sadly, just my 275m, so on a new favs hunt and these 3 keep hollering.Amour and craving look creamy? So glad you got your site issues under control and didn’t have to do the restore from January! That would have been awful! Thank you for swatching ALL of your MAC lippies! They are definitely my favorite lipsticks!
A few faves are Modesty (mid-tone pink), Patisserie (pink with shimmer), Up the Amp (creamy violet), Syrup (mauve), VG IV (berry with gold shimmer), and Half N’ Half (pinky nude). If I was rich, I’d own them all and one of those awesome tiered displays they have in the MAC store to feature them!
